Smt. Sheila Bhatia has been actively asssociated with the theatre movement for over 35 years. She is playwright, composer and director and has over 60 major productions to her credit. She is known for her innovative and experimental musical plays in three languages: Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu. From the time of her first musical play Call of the Valley, staged 30 years ago to her recent Sulagte Darya, hers has been a continuous effort to find new and meaningful forms and themes.
She is the recepient of many awards and honours. The Government of India conferred on her the title of Padmashri in 1970. For her eminence in the field of theatre and her contribution to its enrichment Smt. Sheila Bhatia receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Direction for 1982.
