Born in 1920 in Vantaram village, Andhra Pradesh, Shri Peesapati Narasimha Murty was trained as an actor by Shri Kilambi Krish- namacharyulu, a well-known figure of the professional Telugu stage. Embarking upon an acting career in 1949, he has to date given some six thousand performances in numerous successful productions. Specially known for his historical and mythological roles, Shri Narasimha Murty has won wide popular acclaim in a career spanning three decades. Kurukshetram and Gayopa- khyanam — plays he directed — have enjoyed phenomenal runs all over Andhra Pradesh and brought him laurels in the role of Shri Krishna. Chairman of the Andhra Artistes’ Associa- tion, Shri Narasimha Murty received the title of Nataka Kala Prapoorna from the Andhra Pradesh Nataka Academy in 1976. For his eminence in the field of theatre and his contribution to its enrichment Shri Peesapati Narasimha Murty receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Acting for 1986.
