Born in 1921 in Nasik, Shri Dattatray Ramchandra Bhat was trained by guru Vishram Bedekar. Since 1934 he has acted in several plays and Marathi and Hindi films. He has worked with many eminent theatre directors including Madhukar Phatak, Vishnu Pant Godbole, Damu Kenkare and Vjjaya Mehta. He is known for his contribution to the traditional narrative Aakhyan form. He is recipient of several honours including awards from the Government of Maharashtra and the Marathi Sahitya Sangh. For his eminence in the field of theatre and his contribution to its enrichment, Shri Dattatray Ramchandra Bhat receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Acting for 1983.
