I present to you, Sir, Shri Karamatulla Khan. Shri Karamatulla Khan was born in 1917, in Rampur. He comes of a long and famous line of maestros of the Tabla, descendants of Ustad Vilayat Hazi Khan. Shri Karamat Khan received his training from his father, the late Masit Khan, who too has been recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Tabla. Shri Karamatulla Khan professes the Farakka style of playing the Tabla. He is known for the clarity of his utterance, for his ingenuity in devising rhythmic patterns and for his uncanny command of laya. Shri Karamatulla Khan has performed extensively both a soloist and as accompanist. He has visited Europe as a cultural delegate of the Government of India. He presently serves as a Staff artiste with the All India Radio. For his eminence in the field of Music and his contribution to its enrichment Shri Karamatulla Khan receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Hindustani Instrumental Music.
