I present to you, Sir, Smt. Jyotsna Keshavrao Bhole. Smt. Jyotsna Keshavrao Bhole was born in 1914, in Goa. She began her career as a singer when she was just 13 years of age. She received her training in Hindustani music of the Agra and the Tanras Khan Gharanas from the eminent masters Khadim Husain Khan and Inayat Husain Khan as also from her husband Keshavrao Bhole. Smt. Bhole is a greatly admired songster-actress on the stage and also a vocalist of the Hindustani school. Smt. Jyotsna Bhole pioneer- ed the taking of female roles by women in Marathi theatre. She was co-founder with M.G. Rangenekar of the theatre group, Natya Niketan which gave the Marathi stage a new direction. Smt. Bhole retired from the Marathi stage after an extraordinarily successful career spanning three decades. She is the author of a number of plays and has also written her autobiography. Smt. Jyotsna Bhole has received honours from many organisations including the Marathi Natya Parishad, the Maharashtra Natya Sammelan and the Maharashtra State Government. For her eminence in the field of Drama and her contribution to its enrichment Smt. Jyotsna Keshavrao Bhole receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Acting.
