Born in 1958 in Imphal, Manipur, Shri Rajkumar Bhogen Singh was trained under the guidance of Shri Ratan Thiyam at the Chorus Repertory Company. He also went through training in the traditional dances, narrati- ves, and martial arts of Manipur. He has performed lead roles in more than thirty plays and participated in major theatre festivals. International events in which he has taken part include the Indo-Greek Symposium, Greece; the Pan-Asiatic Festival Rome; the East-West Theatre Encounter, Mumbai; the Kitsui Festival, Tokyo; the Toga Inter- national Festival, Japan; the Avignon Festival, France; Festival of India in Thailand, etc. His performances in various notable productions including Uttarapriyadarshi have estab- lished him as one of the foremost actors in Indian theatre. Shri Rajkumar Bhogen Singh receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contri- bution to theatre as an actor.
