Balappa Yenagi



Born in 1914 in Yenagi village in Karnataka, Shri Balappa Yenagi learnt abhinaya from Gum Chikkodi Shivalinga Swami, known for his female roles in the professional theatre of Karna- taka. An actor and singer, Shri Balappa started his career as a child artist in mythological plays and has now been on the stage for more than fifty years. He founded his group Kala Vaibhav Natya Sangh in 1947. He is a member of the Karnataka Nataka Academy. Shri Balappa was honoured with the title Natya Bhushana by the Karnataka Nataka Academy in 1976. The Sahitya Parishat conferred on him the title Nataka Kala Nipuna in 1978. Shri Balappa Yenagi receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to the theatre of Karnataka as an actor.
