Surekha Sikri



Shrimati Surekha Sikri received her formal training in theatre at the National School of Drama, Delhi, under the guidance of its former Director Shri E. Alkazi whom she regards as her mentor. Graduating in acting from the School in 1968, Shrimati Surekha Sikri joined the National School of Drama Repertory Company where she worked as an actress for over 20 years. She left the Company in 1987 and now also acts on television and films. Shrimati Surekha Sikri has worked in some 40 major productions by leading directors at the National School of Drama. Some of her notable performances have been as Devyani in Devyani ka Kehna Hai, Alison in Look Back in Anger, Woman in Three Texts in Solitude, Husnara in Bivion ka Madarsa, Savitri in Adhe Adhure,Nani in Sandhya Chhaya, and Patty in The Fool. Besides acting in NSD Repertory productions, Shrimati Surekha Sikri has designed costumes for a few plays, assisted with lighting, and translated three plays from English to Hindustani. Shrimati Surekha Sikri receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for her contribu- tion to theatre as an actress.
