Sova Sen



Born in 1923, at Dacca, Smt. Sova Sen has received training in acting from some of the most outstanding Directors of the Bengali Stage – Sombhu Mitra, Bijon Bhattacharji and Utpal Dutt. Smt. Sova Sen began her career in acting with the Indian People’s Theatre Association, in 1943. She has starred in nearly 150 films in Hindi and Bengali. A leading actress with the Little Theatre Group and the People's Little Theatre, in Calcutta, Smt. Sova Sen is also one of the principal exponents of the new style of acting evolved principally by these two units. Her own acting has vastly influenced the new theatre movement, especially in Bengal. Smt. Sova Sen is Founder and Secretary of the Brecht Society of India and Vice- President of the People’s Little Theatre, Calcutta. For her eminence in Bengali Theatre and for her contribution to its enrichment, Smt. Sova Sen receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Acting.
