Born in 1949 in Golaghat, Assam, Shrimati Indira P.P. Bora learned Sattriya dances from her childhood under Roshes- war Saikia Barbayan, Ghana Kant Bora and Pradip Chaliha. She trained in Bharatanatyam for thirteen years under Rukmini Devi Arundale’s guidance at Kalakshetra, Madras, and also received training in Kuchipudi from Guru Vempati Chinna Satyam. Over the last two decades, Indira Bora has been performing and propagating the Sattriya dances of Assam with a view to creating wider appreciation for this monastic tradition. At her institution Kalabhumi, set up in 1982 in Guwahati, she has been imparting training in Sattriya dances as also in Bharatanat- yam. In her effort to popularize Sattriya dances, she has worked with traditional exponents from various Sattras and with reputed dance scholars, conducting research and documentation and organizing seminars and workshops. She has published several articles on the subject and presented her art in various forums and dance festivals in India and abroad. Shrimati Indira P.P. Bora receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for her contribution to the Sattriya dances of Assam.
