They were initiated in music by their grandfather Pandit Bade Ramdasji and were subsequently groomed as vocalists under the guidance of their father Shri Hanuman Prasad Misra and their uncle Shri Gopal Misra. They also took Master’s degrees in music from Banaras Hindu University. Shri Rajan and Sajan Misra are today the foremost repre- sentatives of the Banaras gharana of Hindustani music. Gifted with melodious voices, they have inherited a rich repertoire of compositions from their mentors. Though Khyal is their forte, the brothers are adept in singing Tappa, Tarana and Bhajan. They have won wide appreciation performing in major music events in the country and abroad. Shri Rajan Misra and Shri Sajan Misra receive the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for their contribution to Hindustani vocal music.
