Born in 1932 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, Shri Nasir Zahiruddin Dagar received his training in Dhrupad under Ustads Nasir Moinuddin Dagar, Nasir Aminu- ddin Dagar. Rahimuddin Khan Dagar and Hussainuddin Dagar — leading exponents of Dagar- bani. Shri Nasir Zahiruddin Dagar and his brother, the late Nasir Faiyazuddin Dagar — better known as the Dagar Brothers — achieved renown as leading Dhrupad singers of the country. Together they made a distinctive contribution to the propagation of Dhrupad in India and abroad. The Dagar Brothers gained wide popularity on the concert platform and have to their credit a large number of gramophone records and cassettes. They also trained a number of students in Dhrupad. Over the years they conducted master classes and workshops on Dhrupad in several European countries. Among other appearances in major events abroad, the Dagar Brothers were featured in the Festival of India in Japan in 1988. They received several honours for their work. Shri Nasir Zahiruddin Dagar receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribu- tion to Hindustani vocal music.
