Padmavati Gokhale Shaligram

Born 1920 in Kolhapur, Maha- rashtra, Shrimati Padmavati Gokhale Shaligram learnt vocal music from her uncle Shri Govindrao Shaligram — a disciple of Ustad Alladiya Khan — her father Shri Gopalkrishna Shaligram, and her brother Vamanrao. She belongs to the Jaipur gharana of Hindustani music.
Beginning with a public recital at 11, Shrimati Padmavati Shaligram has performed all over the country. She has sung for Akashvani for the past 57 years and for Doordarshan from its inception. At the instance of Shri Mallikarjun Mansoor, she has briefly taught at Dharwad University. Shrimati Padmavati Shaligram has issued several gramophone records and cassettes. Among her students are some young vocalists of Maharashtra.
Shrimati Padmavati Gokhale Shaligram receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for her contribution to Hindustani vocal music.
