Pandit Jasraj

Sangeet Natak Akademi Award 1987 Music - Hindustani - Vocal Born in 1930 in the village of 1987 Mandori, Haryana, Pandit Jasraj received his training in Hindustani vocal music from his elder brother Pandit Maniram of the Mewati gharana. Over a long concert career he has emerged as a popular vocalist with a distinctive style in rendering khayal and devotional compositions. Pandit Jasraj has composed music for many dance-dramas and films and has several gramophone records to his credit. He has received several awards and honours among them Padma Shri (1975) and the title of Sangeet Martand (1976) conferred by the Govemment of Haryana. For his eminence in music and his contribution to its enrichment Pandit Jasraj receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Hindustani vocal music.
