I present to you, Madam, Smt. Indrani Rahman. Smt. Indrani Rahman had her initial training from her mother Smt. Ragini Devi who not only was a reputed dancer but also wrote extensively on various styles of Indian classical dance traditions. Smt. Rahman later learnt Bharatanatyam from Pandanallur Chokkalingam Pillai, Mohiniattam from Chinnammu Amma and Odissi from Deba Prasad Das. She has given innumerable recitals all over the world. Apart from giving solo performances she encouraged more than 25 gifted young dancers by arranging their maiden performances in India and abroad. She taught Indian classical dances at Harvard and New York Universities and Brooklyn College. Currently she is teaching at Julliard School of Dance, Lincoln Center, New York. She has been widely honoured by various disting- uished cultural institutions. She is also a recipient of Padma- sree. For her eminence in the field of dance and her contribution to its enrichment Smt. Indrani Rahman receives Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Indian Classical Dance for 1981.
