I present to you Sir, Kumari Yamini Krishnamurti, a foremost exponent of Bharata Natyam. Born at Bangalore, in a family of Scholars, Kumari Yamini Krishnamurti had her early training in Bharata Natyam at Kalakshetra in Madras under Smt. Rukmini Devi. As a Government of India scholar she had further training under the late Vidwan Ellappa Pillai of Kancheepuram. Kumari Yamini Krishnamurti has been in the fore-front of Bharata Natyam dancers and has won laurels both from the Government and the public as an outstanding performer and a creative artist. She has been appointed the Asthana Nartaki of the temple of Shri Venkates- wara at Tirupati. Kumari Yamini Krishnamurti, who is also a well-known exponent of Kuchipudi dance, has contributed articles on various aspects of dance traditions to the leading journals of the country. She has founded a School in Delhi called Nritya Kaustubha, for teaching Bharata Natyam. For her eminence as a dancer of Bharata Natyam and her contribution to its enrich- ment, Kumari Yamini Krishna- murti receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for 1977.
