Ramchatur Mallick

I present to you, Sir, Shri Ramchatur Mallick.
Born in 1905, in the village of Amta, Bihar, Shri Mallick comes of a distinguished family of musicians, known as the Mallik gharana of dhrupad singers.
Sri Mallick had his initial training in vocal music under his father, Rajit Ram Mallick. Later he became a disciple of his uncle, Kshitipal Mallik and of Rameswar Pathak, the renowned sitar player.
Besides being an eminent dhrupadia of the Mallick gharana, he is also an accomp- lished singer of Kheyal, Thumri and the compositions of Vidyapati. He has new compositions and ragas to his credit.
Shri Ramchatur Mallick went on a concert tour of Europe and Egypt in 1937.
Shri Mallick has been honoured by various societies and was Court Musician of Darbhanga from 1924 to 1959. He was elected a Fellow of the Bihar Akademi of Music, Dance and Drama in 1953.
For his eminence in the field of Music and his contribution to its enrichment, Sri Ramchatur Mallick receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Hindustani Vocal Music.
