Dandamudi Rammohan Rao

Born on 18 March 1933 in Vuyyuru, Andhra Pradesh, Shri Dandamudi Ramamohana Rao received his training in the Mridangam in the Pudukottai style from Shri Tirupathi Ramanuja Suri and Shri Palani Subramanyam Pillai. He is also a proficient player of the Kanjira and the Morsing. A soloist as well as an able Mridangam accompanist for Carnatic vocalists, Shri Rama- mohana Rao has developed a poised and dignified style. He has accompanied many eminent Carnatic vocalists over the years. He has performed in Europe and has lectured at the University of Paris. The title Kala Praveena was conferred upon Shri Danda- mudi Ramamohana Rao in 1981 by the Andhra Pradesh Sangeetha Nataka Academy. He has been appointed Asthana Vidwan of Sri Thirnmala Tirnpati Devasthanam. Shri Dandamudi Rama- mohana Rao receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to Carnatic instrumental music.
