I present to you, Sir, Shri Amir Khan. Shri Amir Khan, one of the foremost Khayal singers of today, was born in Indore in 1912. He belongs to a distinguished family of musicians and was trained in vocal music by his father, Shri Shamir Khan. As a vocalist he has develop- ed a unique style of the Indore gharana. With superb voice production, his alap in the slow tempo has a distinct flavour of its own. The faster phrases tans and the solfa singing sargam that he incorporates in his khayals have a baffling complexity. He renders taranas with a characteristic purity. He was elected Fellow of the Bihar Sangeet Natak Akademi. He has visited Kabul on concert tour. For his eminence in the field of Hindustani music, Shri Amir Khan receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.
