Annavarapu Ramaswamy

Born in 1926 in Somavarapu- padu village, Andhra Pradesh, in a family of traditional musicians, Shri Annavarapu Ramaswamy received his training in music initially under M. Jagannatham Chowdary and later under P. Ramakrishna- iah Pantulu. A well-known violinist, Annavarapu Ramaswamy is proficient both as solo performer and accompanist. He has performed widely, and has accompanied most of the eminent artists of his time. He worked as a Staff Artiste with All India Radio for nearly forty years before retiring in 1986. He has trained a number of students in various instruments including the violin, flute and Veena. Among other honours, he received the Fellowship of Andhra Pradesh Sangeet Akademi in 1983. Shri Annavarapu Rama- swamy receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to Carnatic instrumental music.
