Born in 1936 in Shimoga, Kamataka, Shrimati Tiruvenga- dam Rukmini was trained in Carnatic music by Shri R.R. Keshavamorthy and Shri Lal- gudi G. Jayaraman. She has also received training in vocal music under Shri Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer. Shrimati T. Rukmini has performed extensively as an accompanist on the violin to many leading Carnatic musi- cians including Shrimati M.L. Vasanthakumari, D.K. Pattamal, and N. Ramani. She is also an accomplished vocalist, and the creator of a number of original compositions. Among other honours, she received the title Kalaimamani from the Tamil Nadu Eyal Isai Nataka Manram in 1992. Shrimati T. Rukmini receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for her contribution to Carnatic instrumental music.
