Voleti Venkateswarlu

Shri Voleti Venkateswarlu was born in 1928 at Rajahmundry. He received his initial training in Carnatic vocal music from the late C. Achyutharamaiah and Shri M.V. Pantulu. Graduating in music from Andhra University,he later refined his style under the tutelage of the veteran artiste, Dr. Sripada Pinakaani. Shri Voleti Venkateswarlu has had a long career on the concert platform, performing in several cities in the country. He has been working as a Producer of Music with All India Radio since 1956, and is now attached to A.I.R.’s Vijayawada Station. Shri Venkateswarlu’s chastely tradi- tional style of rendition has won him a vast following of discern- ing listeners. He has received many awards and honours, among them the title of Sangeetha Chudarnani confer- red by Shri Krishna Gana Sabha of Madras in 1982. For his eminence in the field of Music and his contribution to its enrichment, Shri Voleti Venkateswarlu receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Carnatic Vocal Music for 1985.
