Ali Hussain Khan



Shri Ali Hussain Khan was born in 1915 in Varanasi in a family of traditional musicians. He was trained by his father the late Ustad Chhotak Khan, his elder brother the late Ustad Mansab Ali Khan, and the late Ustad Jamal Sen — all of the Banaras Gharana.
Shri Ali Hussain established himself as a Shehnai player early in life and for many years served in the erstwhile Durbars of Gwalior, Mysore, Baroda and Rampur. He has performed widely, his tours abroad taking him to China, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Nepal. Shri Ali Hussain has been imparting training in Shehnai to many young musicians and has been honoured for his outstanding musicianship by several institutions. He has several records to his credit.
For his eminence in the field of Music and his contribution to its enrichment, Shri Ali Hussain Khan receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Hindustani Instrumental Music for 1985.
