D. K. Datar



Born on 14 October 1932 in Kurundwad, Maharashtra, Shri D.K. Datar initially learnt the violin from Pandit Vighneshwar Shastri and was later a stu- dent of his uncle Pandit D.V. Paluskar. Shri Datar has had a long career as a violinist. His style is distinguished by gayaki ang rendered with virtuosity. He has performed widely in India, and has toured Europe, the United States, Canada, Japan and other countries. He is also the teacher of many young musicians in India and abroad. He has been honoured by many institutions. Shri D.K. Datar receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to Hindu- stani instrumental music.
