Abdul Rashid Khan

Born in 1908 in Rae Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, Shri Abdul Rashid Khan received his training in music from his father Shri Chhote Yusuf Khan and later from Shri Bade Yusuf Khan of the Gwalior gharana.
Abdul Rashid Khan has enriched Hindustani music by his unique talents. Apart from Khayal, he is adept in Dhrupad, Dhamar, Chaiti, Kajri and several other forms of Hindustani music. He has composed many bandishes under the pen name Rasan Piya. Besides, he has an extensive repertoire of traditional and rare bandishes, and has presented them widely in performances in India and abroad. Besides recordings made for the archives of music institutions such as Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata, he has also recorded for the Ford Foundation and for Doordarshan, Kolkata.
For his services to music, he has been honoured by several organizations. He is a recipient of the ITC Sangeet Research Academy Award, Kolkata; the Dover Lane Music Conference Award, Kolkata; and the Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. A dedicated teacher of music, he is currently a visiting guru at the ITC Sangeet Research Academy.
