I have the honour to present to you Shri Ganesh Ramchandra Behere, a foremost exponent of vocal music of the Hindustani School. Born in 1890 at Kurghe in Ratnagiri District, Shri Ganesh Ramchandra Behere became a pupil of Ganapathibua Bhilwadi- kar. The desire to learn music was a passion with him and he left home at a tender age to become the disciple of the Late Khan Sahib Abdul Karim Khan. He also had his training under Ustad Rajbali Khan of Dewas and Shree Bhaskar Rao Bakhle. In recognition of his merits as a musician Ustad Abdul Karim Khan appointed him as a teacher in his Sangeet Vidyalaya, in 1918. Possessing a deep and resonent voice Shri Baherebua is noted for his clarity of expression. His gayaki is dignified, enchanting, full of depth and feeling which is a source of great emotional satisfaction. For his pre-eminence in music and his life long service to its cause, I pray, Sir, that you may be pleased to grant him recognition as musician of the year in the field of vocal music of the Hindustani School, and to award to him a Shawl, a gold Shrinkhal and a Sanad in token of that recognition.
