Tapas Sen

I present to you, Sir, Shri Tapas Sen Shri Sen was born in 1924. He is a Founder-Member of the Delhi Indian People’s Theatre Association, for which he produced a shadow play in a new form on the Bengal famine in 1945. Since then he has been the author of countless lighting, scripts for theatre and other stage productions. In the process and through his imagination and technical virtuosity he has quietly effected what can rightly be said to be a revolution in the concept and application of lighting as a contributing factor in stage plays. Shri Sen has done lighting of productions for a large number of theatre groups, including all the leading ones in Calcutta, such as Bohurupee, Little Theatre Group and People’s Little Theatre. Shri Sen has also done lighting for innumerable presentations of Tagore’s dance-dramas. Shri Sen’s work was voted as the best lighting design in the Asia’72 Fair in Delhi. Shri Tapas Sen is at present working on the lighting for the Son-et-Lumlere at Teen Murti House, New Deihl. For his eminence in the field of Theatre and his contribution to its enrichment Shri Tapas Sen receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Stage Technique.
