Born in 1934 in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, Shri Laxman Krishna- rao Pandit received his training in Hindustani vocal music from his father Krishnarao Shankar Pandit of the Gwalior gharana. Over the past several decades he has distinguished himself as an exponent of the music of his gharana.
Shri Laxman Krishnarao Pandit taught at the Shankar Gandharva Vidyalaya, Gwalior, for several years and subse- quently worked as Producer (Music) in All India Radio from 1961 to 1976. He was later Professor in the Faculty of Music and Fine Arts, University of Delhi. He has groomed a number of well-known vocalists. Shri Pandit has a large repertoire of Khayals, Taranas and Tappas which he has recorded for various archives of music. He also has a number of publications to his credit. He has been honoured by various organizations.
Shri Laxman Krishnarao Pandit receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to Hindustani vocal music.
