I present to you, Sir, Shri P.V.Rajamannar Born in 1901, Shri Rajamannarrstarted his career as anradvocate. An eminent scholarrwith a deep interest in Literature, Music and Art, he had the Honorary degree of Doctor of Letters conferred on him by the Andhra and Annamalai Universities and the Honorary degree of Doctor of Laws by the Madras University. Shri Rajamannar was the first Chairman of the Sangeet Natak Akademi when it was constituted in 1953 and held that office till 1961. Always interested in Drama, he is the author of several full-length plays and a number of one-act plays almost all of which have been produced on the stage as well as by All India Radio. Several of his plays have been translated into other Indian languages including Hindi. He has written, spoken and broadcast extensively on topics relating to Literature, Music and Art. Shri Rajamannar has been closely associated with the Thyaga Brahma Mahotsava Sabha as its President for over twelve years, is a Foundermember and at present the Vice- President of the Kalakshetra, and has been the Chairman from its inceptions of the Madras State Lalit Kala Akademi. For his profound learning and his distinguished service to the Arts in general, and to Drama in particular, Shri Rajamannar has been elected a Fellow of the Sangeet Natak Akademi.
