Born on 16 October 1927 in Mokokchung, Nagaland, Shri Satemmeren
Longkumer is a well-known folk singer of the region.
He has presented his music in traditional settings for many years, and has also performed in prestigious music festivals in India and abroad. He is unique among traditional artists of the region in having devoted himself simultaneously to literary work on folk music, folk literature, and social practices among the Naga tribes. He has published compilations of Ao Naga songs and folk tales, some of the titles being Yadensang Aser Kajepsangla and Kendong. He has many recordings to his credit.
For his contribution to the culture of the region, he has been honoured by the Governor of Nagaland.
Shri Satemmeren Longkumer receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Tagore Award for his contribution to the folk music of Nagaland.
