Born on 4 December 1980 in Kupvi, Himachal Pradesh, Shri Kedar Singh Thakur trained in different aspects of theatre at the Himachal Cultural Research Forum and Theatre Academy, Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. He has worked in numerous theatre productions in various capacities such as a director, an actor and a lighting designer. Shri Kedar Thakur is well known for his work in the field of children’s theatre in Himachal Pradesh. His group Theatre for Reinforcing Education and Training (TREAT) has staged more than 35 children’s theatre productions in Shimla. A recipient of the scholarship in the field of folk theatre by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, he has conducted several theatre workshops for children and designed a theatre programme for prison inmates at Model Central Jail, Kanda, Himachal Pradesh. In recognition of his innovative ideas and work in the field of theatre, he has been felicitated by many institutions including the Department of Language, Art and Culture, Himachal Pradesh. Shri Kedar Singh Thakur is awarded the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar of Sangeet Natak Akademi for the year 2016 for his notable talent in the field of theatre direction.
