Born in 1923 in Karnataka, Shri Devendra Murdeshwar learnt the Tabla from Ustad Amir Hussain Khan and later turned to the flute — the best known disciple of the late Pannalal Ghosh.
Over a career spanning three decades Shri Devendra Murdeshwar has distinguished himself as a flutist, acquiring a style marked by dignity and repose. He has performed allover the country, tours abroad taking him to Nepal, Afganistan, Bulgaria, Mauritius, the Soviet Union and the United States. For many years a Music Producer in All India Radio, Shri Devendra Murdeshwar is a popular broadcaster. Among his recordings is a set of casse- ttes issued in the United States.
For his eminence in the field of music and his contribution to its enrichment Shri Devendra Murdeshwar receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Hindustani Instrumental Music for 1986.
