Shri Nasir Aminuddin Dagar was born in 1923 in Indore, in an eminent family of Dhrupad musicians. He received his training in the Dagar Vani first from his father the late Ustad Nasiruddin Khan Dagar, then from other musicians in the family, and finally from his elder brother the late Ustad Nasir Moinuddin Dagar. He perform- ed with his elder brother for a number of years and the Dagar Brothers duo came to be considered among the best exponents of Dhrupad in the country. The rendering of Dhrupad by Shri Nasir Aminuddin Dagar is marked by dignity and repose. Shri Dagar has performed widely all over the country and abroad in the U.S.S.R., Japan, Iran and together with his brother introduced Dhrupad in Europe and at international festivals elsewhere. To the duo also goes the credit for popularizing Dhrupad at home. Shri Nasir Aminuddin Dagar’s records include some sponsored by Unesco. He has been conferred the Padma Bhushan and appointed Producer Emeritus of All India Radio in 1986. For his eminence in the field of Music and his contribution to its enrichment, Shri Nasir Ami- nuddin Dagar receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Hindustani Vocal Music for 1985.
