Born on 16 July 1982, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Shrimati Amritha Murali
received her initial training in Carnatic music from her grandmother Smt
Rajam Nagarajan, later she trained under Shri K.R. Kedarnath, Shrimati
Meera Kedarnath and Shrimati Rama Ravi. Presently she is learning under
the tutelage of Shri P.S. Narayanswamy. She is also adept at playing the
violin and has trained under Shrimati T. Rukmini.
An A grade artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan, Shrimati Amritha Murali has performed in many prestigious music festivals in India and abroad. These include Madras Music Academy and Narada Gana Sabha in Chennai, Shanmukhananda Fine Arts Festival in Pune, Shanmukhananda Sangita Sabha in Delhi, Navaratri Mantapam in Thiruvananthapuram. She has also lent her voice to many contemporary theatrical performances by the director Gowri Ramnarayan.
She has received many awards from various prestigious organisations including the M.S. Subbulakshmi Award from Narada Gana Sabha, Chennai; the outstanding vocalist award from the Madras Music Academy; and the Kala Ratna from the Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana Committee.
Shrimati Amritha Murali is awarded the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar of Sangeet Natak Akademi for 2013-2014 for her notable talent in the field of Carnatic vocal music.
