Born on 27 August 1974 at Chennai; a graduate in Electronics
Engineering from Chennai; received training in the Vazhuvoor
School of Bharatanatyam from Shri. S.K. Rajarathnam Pillai, Smt.
K.J. Sarasa and Smt. Kalanidhi Narayanan; also studied Carnatic
Music under B. Ramamurthy Rao at Chennai; received the senior scholarship from the Ministry
of Culture, New Delhi; performed in important dance festivals within the country and abroad
including the major Sabhas of Chennai, festivals organized by Sangeet Natak Akademi and
Tamil Nadu Eyal Isai Nataka Manram; participated in the cultural festival organized in Japan,
International Movement for Tamil Nadu Culture at Canada; conducted several workshops and
lecture demonstrations on Bharatanatyam in USA, Canada and Japan; received several honours
and awards including the Vasantha Lakshmi Narasimhachari Endowment Award by Narada
Gana Sabha (2003), Yuva Kala Bharati by Bharath Kalachar (2006) Chennai Online Natya
Natchatiram Award from Chennai Online (2007) and Nandana Mamani (Shriram Award for
Excellence) by Karthik Fine Arts, (2007); presently teaching Bharatanatyam to Young Dancers
at her School “Natya Sameekshana” at Chennai.
Lavanya receives the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Purskar for Bharatanatyam.
