Akkarai S. Subhalakshmi

Born on 7th November 1983 in Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu; initiated into Violin by her father Akkarai Shri S. Swamynathan; also learnt from Shri V. Janakiraman; has learnt vocal music under Shri O.V. Subramanian, Smt. Padma Natesan, and Shri P.S. Narayanaswamy; presently learning under the tutelage of Shri N. Ravikiran. ‘A’ graded artiste of All India Radio; has performed solo as well as accompanied eminent artistes including Dr. M. Balamurali Krishan, Chitravina N. Ravikiran, Dr. N. Ramani, P. Unnikrishnan and many others; has performed extensively all over the world including the Indo-Russian Cultural exchange programme (1996), Theatre de la ville festival (Paris), Cleveland festival (USA), Farewell concert for Zubin Mehta (Munich) and Mahatma Gandhi Institute Sangeeth Utsav (Mauritius); recipient of many awards including the Rajiv Gandhi Yuva Puraskar, Kala Bhushan, Kalashree, Outstanding Young Violinist Award and the Kalki Krishnamurthy Memorial award; has to her credit a number of music albums in Carnatic vocal and violin.
Akkarai Subhalakshmi receives the Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar for Carnatic instrumental music.
