December,1978 at Tatanagar, Jharkhand,
was initially trained in Kathak under
Smita Chaudhary at the Sangeet Samaj,
Jamshedpur. She took her advanced
training at the Kathak Kendra, New
Delhi, through a scholarship, under the
guidance of Jaikishan Maharaj and Birju
Maharaj. Later, she joined the Drishtikon
Dance Foundation under Aditi
Mangaldas where she is a lead
performer. She has attended many
workshops conducted by Astad Deboo,
Kumudini Lakhia, Saswati Sen, Narendra
Sharma, and Leela Samson.
Gauri Divakar’s talent as a young Kathak dancer has been noted in her performances both as a soloist and in group compositions. Her performances in various festivals include Kathak Mahotsav, Dikshant Utsav, Sharad Utsav, Haridas Sammelan, Konark festival, Seher dance festival, Uday Shankar festival, Durga Lal Festival, Kalidas Samaroh, Jaipur Kathak Festival, Ananya Festival, Qutab Mahotsav, Lacchu Maharaj Jayanti and the UNESCO Heritage festival. She has also visited Belgium, Spain, Libya, Poland, Holland, Portugal, Dubai, Germany, Singapore, Indonesia, U.K. and Norway.
Presently, she is teaching Kathak dance at the Nitco School of Music and Dance, Delhi and is also a member of the Drishtikon Dance Foundation repertory.
