Palani Murugan



Shri Palani Murugan was born on 4 March 1976 in Chennai, Tamilnadu. He is an actor and dancer who hails from a traditional folk theatre family of Therukoothu tradition.
He has received formal training in various dance and theatre forms like Therukoothu, Silambam, Devarattam, Tappattam, Bharatanatyam, Kalaripayattu and Contemporary Dance. He has also learnt Tai-ci-Quan, Yoga, Chhau and attended Clown Workshop, Story Telling workshop under Purisai Duraisami Kannappa, Shaji John, Anita Ratnam, E.R.Gopalakrishnan, Bansi Kaul and John Freeman.
Shri Palani Murugan has acted in plays including Andora, Kaisika Puraanam and Narkaalikaaran, directed by Ramanujam; Padukalam, Prahaladha Charithram, Thalai and Dhutha Gadoth Gajam by N. Muthuswamy; Gita and Imagery and Sagajeve by Kanahailal; A Midsummer Night’s Dream with Indian and Sri Lankan actors; and dance productions Ghajaanana, Utpala, Andhari, Adhirohana, Pancha Bootham, A Map to the Next World, Suvadu choreographed by Anita Ratnam. He also got opportunity to travel to Singapore, Malaysia, Bangkok, Dubai, Sri Lanka, UK, Australia, Canada, Barona and Switzerland. Shri Murugan received the Junior Fellowship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
Shri Palani Murugan is awarded the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar of Sangeet Natak Akademi for the year 2009 for his notable talent in the field of theatre acting.
