Born in 1930 in Gauhad, Madhya Pradesh, Shri Abdul Lateef Khan received his initial training in Sarangi from his father Ustad Chhote Khan of the Gwalior gharana. He was later a student of Ustads Haddu Khan, Sikandar Khan, Bade Ghulam, Sabir Khan Ambalewale, and other eminent musicians. A performer of distinction, Shri Abdul Lateef Khan is proficient both as accompanist and soloist on the Sarangi. A teacher at Ustad Allauddin Khan Akademi, Bhopal, Shri Abdul Lateef Khan has been on the staff of All India Radio from 1957. He also plays the Sitar, Santoor, Tabla and Pakhawaj. Shri Abdul Lateef Khan receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribu- tion to Hindustani instrumental music.
