Born on 25 June 1979 in Jaripara village in
Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh, Shri Budhram
Sori imbibed the rich musical tradition of the
region at an early age. He represents the Gond
tribal people of Chhattisgarh.
A well-known folk artist of Bastar, Shri Budhram Sori is also an expert in Gaur dance, Bhimul Pata singing, Biriya Dhol and Tehndod playing. As an exponent of tribal dance, he has participated in many plays directed by the famous director Shri Habib Tanvir, including Kam Deva ka Apna Vasant Ritu ka Sapna, Hirma ki Amar Kahani and Raj Rakqt. He has performed in many major festivals in the country and abroad including the Frankfurt Book Fair, Germany; Republic Day Parade; Bharat Mahotsav, Delhi; and Champaran Mahotsav, Chhattisgarh. Shri Sori has trained a large number of students of the region, making a significant contribution to the promotion and preservation of his tribal culture.
Shri Budhram Sori receives the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar for the year 2011 for his notable talent in the field of folk and tribal dance of Chhattisgarh.
