Born on 1 May 1974, Shri Padiparambil Rajeev
has obtained his diploma in Mizhavu from Kerala
Kalamandalam, and has completed two years
higher training with Prof. Easwaraunni at Kerala
Starting out young in the field of Kutiyattam, Shri Padiparambil Rajeev joined the Kutiyattam troupe led by the late Guru Ammannur Madhava Chakyar as a Mizhavu player. At present, he is the chief Mizhavu artist of the Ammannur Chachu Chakyar Smaraka Gurukulam. He has composed the music and played Mizhavu for the Kutiyattam play Shakuntalam directed by G. Venu, which was staged more than 125 times in India and abroad. He has also taken the initiative in composing Panchari Melam in Mizhavu. He has performed extensively in several national and international festivals in the country and abroad.
For his contribution in the field of Mizhavu drumming, Shri Padiparambil Rajeev was honoured with the Promising Artist Award conferred by Mumbai Keli (2003), and the D. Appukuttan Nair Smaraka Puruskaram conferred by Nepathya Moozhikulam (2009).
Shri Padiparambil Rajeev receives the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar for the year 2011 for his notable talent in the field of Mizhavu drumming in Kutiyattam performances.
