Born on 25 March 1979, at Cuttack, Odisha, Shrimati
Sonali Mohapatra received her initial training in Odissi
dance from Truptimayee Mohanty. Later, she received
training in the art form under Durgacharan Ranbir. She
is the recipient of a national scholarship from the
Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
Shrimati Sonali Mohapatra has established herself as an
exponent of Odissi dance in spite of her having aural
impairment. She has performed solo extensively in
various prestigious dance festivals such as the Biswa
Odiya Sammeelani, Cuttack; Utkal Divas, Baroda and
Bharuch; Swarnotsav of Sangeet Natak Akademi;
Konark Dance and Music Festival, Bhubaneswar;
International Buddha Mahotsav, Bodh-Gaya;
International Odissi Dance Festival; Mukteshwar
Festival, and Devdasi Festival, Bhubaneswar. She has
also travelled to Japan in 2012 for her performances.
Shrimati Sonali Mohapatra has received various awards and honours including the Sanjukta Prativa Samman conferred by Nrutyalaya, Washington D.C. (2007). At present Shrimati Sonali Mohapatra is imparting training in Odissi dance to young students.
Shrimati Sonali Mohapatra is awarded the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar of Sangeet Natak Akademi for the year 2011 for her notable talent in the field of Odissi dance.
