Born in 1931 in Osargaon, Maharashtra, Shri Shriram Jayaram Parab — popularly known as Babi Nalang — was attracted to Dashavatar in 1951 after a few years’ involvement with Konkan folk theatre. He received his training in Dashavatar from Umakant Dashavatar Natya Sanstha and established his own Dashavatar mandali in 1966. He has performed in several major folk-theatre festivals in Maharashtra and other parts of the country. Notable among his productions are Sati Sulochana, Draupadi Vastrapaharan and Tulsi Vrindavan. He has excelled in a variety of roles including Vishnu and Lakshman. Shri Babi Nalang receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to Dashavatar.
