Rameswar Pathak



Born in 1938 in Nagaon, Assam, Shri Rameswar Pathak imbibed early the rich musical tradition of Assam’s Kamrup region. His teachers were Shri Thanuram Pathak and Shri Manhari Pathak. A leading performer of Kamrupiya songs, Shri Rameswar Pathak has had a long career as a broadcaster. He has issued a large number of gramophone records and cassettes and has been a playback singer in many films. In the course of his career Shri Rameswar Pathak has researched in folk music and successfully trained a number of students. He has been teaching at the Arya Vidyapeeth School from 1963. Shri Rameswar Pathak was honoured by the Government of Assam in 1990 for his outstanding work in music. Shri Rameswar Pathak receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribu- tion to the folk music of Assam.
