Born in 1933 in Birbhum district, West Bengal, Shri Purna Chandra Das received his training in traditional music under his father Shri Nabani Das ‘Khepa Baul’ and his mother Shrimati Brojobala Das. Shri Purna Chandra Das is a renowned artist of the Baul tradition. Besides singing, he is an exponent of the dehatatva philosophy of the Bauls of Bengal. He is among the first singers to have popularized this music on the concert platform, and has performed in many parts of the country and abroad. He has trained a large number of students and has given programmes on radio for several decades. Among other awards, he has been honoured with the Award of the Rajya Sangeet Natak Academy, Government of West Bengal. Shri Purna Chandra Das receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribu- tion to the Baul music of Bengal.
