Born on 16 January 1937 in Amta, Darbhanga district, Bihar, Shri Ram Ashish Pathak was trained in the Pakhawaj by his grandfather Pandit Vishnudeo Pathak of the Kudau Singh gharana. He is also a proficient Tabla player. Shri Ram Ashish Pathak has excelled both as a solo performer on the Pakhawaj and as an accompanist. He has accompanied most of his contemporary Dhrupad singers. Shri Pathak worked as an instructor in percussion in the Song and Drama Division, Government of India, up to 1975 and has been with All India Radio since 1977. Records and cassettes of his music have been issued in India and abroad. Shri Ram Ashish Pathak receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to Hindustani instrumental music.
