Born in 1935 in Pandharpur, Maharashtra, Shrimati Vithabai Bhau Narayangaokar belongs to a family professionally involved with Tamasha, the popular musical theatre of Maharashtra. She was trained in the art by her father Shri Bhausaheb Narayangaokar, who had his own Tamasha mandal, and by Shri Parshwanath Atlekar of Sarvodaya Kalapathak, Bombay. Attaining popularity as a performer, Shrimati Vithabai Narayangaokar established her own Tamasha company, and has travelled with her mandaI all over Maharashtra and its neighbourhood. She has to her credit three cassettes of Tamasha songs: Rangabai, Mumbaichi Kelewali, and Raktal Vhali Kurhad. Shrimati Vithabai Narayangaokar received the Vishnudas Bhave Gaurav Padak in 1986 and was felicitated on behalf of the citizens of Maharashtra at a ceremony in Bombay in 1987. Shrimati Vithabai Narayan- gaokar receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for her contribution to Tamasha.
