Born in 1930 in Goalpara, Assam, Shri Rajen Pam imbibed early the rich musical tradition of the Rabha tribe of the region. His teachers were Shri Vishnu Prasad Rabha and Shri Anandi Ramdas. Adopting music and dance as a profession while still very young, Shri Rajen Pam is today one of the most popular performers of Rabha tribal music. He has performed widely in Assam and is a regular broadcaster. Shri Rajen Pam has also worked as a teacher in Arunachal Pradesh and as a social education organizer in Meghalaya for some time. He has a number of gramophone records and a published collection of songs to his credit. Shri Rajen Pam receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to the tribal music of Assam.
