Bhubaneswar Misra



Born in 1927 at Parlakhemundi, Orissa, Shri Bhubaneswar Misra was initiated in Hindustani and Carnatic violin by Dwaram Ven- kataswamy Naidu and Dwaram Narasinga Rao Naidu. He later turned to the music of Orissa, exceling as a composer for Odissi dance. Over the years Shri Bhuba- neswar Misra has contributed to the regeneration of Odissi music, reviving old dance compositions with the aid of research. Interacting with Odissi gurus he has introduced new Pallavis popular today and composed music for dance- dramas and films as well. Well known as a solo violinist, Shri Bhubaneswar Misra served All India Radio for long years as a Senior Music Producer. A recipi- ent of the Orissa Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1979, he now teaches at the Odissi Research Centre, Bhubaneswar. For his eminence in the field of music and his contribution to its enrichment Shri Bhubanes- war Misra receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Odissi Music for 1986.
