Shahir Sable



Shri Krishnarao Ganpatrao Sable was born in 1923 at Pasarani in Maharashtra. Popularly known as Shahir Sable, he belongs to the tradition of Shahirs of Maharashtra who compose songs and verses on different aspects of human life. A noted singer with over 150 gramophone discs to .his credit, Shri Sable is a prolific music composer and lyricist. He evolved a new form of folk drama called Mukta Natya and formed his own troupe, Shahir Sable and Party, in 1945. In order to reach the rural audience in the farflung areas, Shri Sable has toured widely with his mobile theatre unit all over Maharash- tra. He has produced more than twenty plays which are characterised by novelty of ideas, innovative presentation and scathing humour. His versatile talents as a writer, director, actor, singer and musician come to the fore in all his productions. For his eminence in the field of Music and his contribution to its enrichment, Shri Shahir Sable receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Marathi Folk Music for 1984.
